  • How to get a credit card with a damaged credit score?

I have a fairly low credit score due to a couple of charge-offs and a couple accounts in collections that I am not even aware of, but they are possible medical bills. I can’t do a secured card right now. I really just want a card to make small purchases and raise my score. My questions are as follows; What cards should I apply for? How could I raise my score without a card? And what is a good APR for my situation?

      Hi,

You can get your credit card from here:

      http://CreditCardsForBadCredit.notlong.com

    • bdancer222 6:39 pm on January 25, 2012

You may not even be able to get a secured credit card with charge offs and collection accounts.

If you have any open lines of credit, pay them on time. You need at least 24 months of consistent, on time payment history to improve your score. If you don’t have open lines of credit and can’t afford to do a secured credit card, your only option would be to wait out the 7 year reporting period.

You’re gonna have to get a secured credit card.

    • Polar Bear 6:39 pm on January 25, 2012

WTF??? Who says you even need credit cards? This country is drowning in credit card debt….. and don’t let ANYONE tell you that you cannot live good without one. I’m well over 40 and never had or want a credit card. My crdit score is ZERO. I still have everything I need, want and desire. Listen to Dave Ramsey and get the truth about credit. The card issuers and banks all want you over a barrel so they can stick it to ya. They make a damn good living off of people that cannot live within their means….. don’t fall for it!

    • StephenWeinstein 6:39 pm on January 25, 2012

Question: What cards should I apply for?
Answer: None. You will not be approved for any cards (other than secured cards, which you have already stated you cannot do) and applying will make your score even worse

Question: How could I raise my score without a card?
Answer: Pay off the accounts that are in collections

Question: And what is a good APR for my situation?
Answer: Being able to get any APR would be good. I think you qualify for none.

    • Judy 6:39 pm on January 25, 2012

You are not going to ever raise your score by carrying balances on a credit card.
Carrying balances is a good way to RUIN your credit score.

If you get a credit card – pay it in full each month.
It is 100% myth that carrying balances and paying interest is good for you.

  • How much does it cost a month to care for a newborn?

I’m thinking of trying to have a baby soon and I want to know about how much it would cost a month after delivery. I plan on breast feeding so I won’t be buying formula.

    • Mom to a Beautiful Little Girl 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

We don’t spend anything per month on our daughter. We purchased diapers and wipes and clothes before she was born so there’s only a few small odds and ends things we’ve had to buy since she’s been born and she’s now 7 months. All together we’ve only spent a total of $1200 (on everything) or so and we have enough stuff for her until she’s at least 18 months, maybe even longer.

    • TR 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

I say anywhere from $200 to $300/month. Most will be spent on diapers, onesies, bibs, cloths, baby detergent, etc. The older they start to get the more expensive. But I cut lots of cost by making my own baby food, breastfeeding long as I can, and washing soiled clothes immediately. Good luck to you! I’m sure you can do it on less if you are smart about it!

    • Jessica 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

      A FRICKEN LOT!

    • Pippin 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

Newborns need very little. Breastmilk is free, you can use cloth diapers, and clothes can be bought at a garage sale.

As they get older, costs increase dramatically, especially if you need daycare.

    • . 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

Not much, actually. Newborns are cheap. It’s when they get older that they start getting expensive! If you breastfeed and use cloth diapers and cloth wipes, that’s three monthly expensive you won’t have. When he/she goes onto solids, if you don’t use ‘baby food’ and just feed the baby whatever you are eating, that’s another expense you won’t have. If you co-sleep you won’t need a crib. Clothes can be gotten cheap secondhand. The only thing you’ll NEED after that is a car seat if you drive. A good quality second-hand sling instead of a pram would be worth it too.

    • Katy 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

Hard to say, it really depends on what you are capable and willing to spend. If you need to do the bare minimum and to breastfeed (excellent choice :) ) I’d guess (it’s been 19 months since his birth) that you could get by with 100 dollars a month for things like diapers and baby toiletries…clothes are another matter. As the months go by, the costs will go up. You also have to copay or pay out of pocket for dr. visits. If you have a boy and want to circumcise, it’s out of pocket (for us it was around 500), if you ever need baby medicine, it’s like 5 dollars a bottle (that’s a rounding), there are things like toys books and c.d.’s (so baby can listen to music :D ) and blankets and slings. I can tell you what you DON"T need (and I"m sure some moms on here will gasp), you don’t need a highchair, a bouncy chair, a swing, a stroller, a walker, or a crib (unless you are against co-sleeping) You don’t need a bath chair if you shower with baby and can just hand him/her off to your spouse when you are done :)
The costs really do add up haha.

edit@ sara…I didn’t mean toys for the newborn, they don’t play with them anyway. And as for c.d’s , I played music all of the time in the background :D But we also practiced kangaroo care so my son and I had plennnnty of facetime.

    • ALE, Omar's mommy born on 08/09/11 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

I would say about $150 a month, I too breastfeed so this is mostly for diapers. Now if you want to include daycare then it is about $1100 (daycare is only 3 times a week)

    • BeachBum 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

The delivery itself cost me more than anything else so far. I paid about $4k out of pocket, and that was with good insurance.

    • Sara 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

I agree with most of what Katy said though for me a stroller is invaluable but that’s my lifestyle, I don’t however agree with toys or cd’s for a newborn. I’m the best toy she could have and she’d rather listen to me singing

    • Rani 9:00 pm on January 24, 2012

I think, not very much expenses needed for a baby. Main expenses on baby are : feeding, items related to health, diapers.

  • how to resists the urge of spending money and start saving it?

I like to spend my money on thing like clothes and makeup, how can I resist the urge of spending money on the type of stuff and start saving it for the future.

    • spiffyguido 6:38 pm on January 24, 2012

Start to think about your financial situation from a long-term standpoint. If you have long term goals about where you’d like to be financially in 2 months, 6 months, a year, etc. you’ll be less likely to impulsively make purchases you don’t really need to.

I’ve included a link that details how to calculate our net worth. Start calculating it now. You’ll see why saving can help you in the long run and you’ll be more disciplined with your cash.

    • Taylor Ervin 6:38 pm on January 24, 2012

Put in a savings account with a restriction on it. Talk to your bank about it, set the restriction on for a year or so that you can only put money into it & not take out of it.((:

      hope i helped.

    • Angry Bird 6:38 pm on January 24, 2012

      Savings account.
If you are under 18, just get a parent to go with you to the bank to open this.
Most banks have limits that you can only take out money 2 or 3 times a month on a savings. Note that some banks require minimums of $300 to $500 just to open a savings account.
Your age and the income you have coming in had a lot to do with this question.
Always in yahoo answers give some details.

    • G. Whilikers 6:38 pm on January 24, 2012

First, have an actual reason to save your money. That could be a new laptop, a car, college money, or whatever, but knowing why you are saving money can be a big help. Make that savings goal realistic ("$X per month gets me there in Y months, I have this much left over to amuse myself") so you don’t feel like you’re sacrificing too much. When you get new money, put it to work right away and chart your progress.

Second, don’t make it so easy to spend money. Don’t carry all that money around. Leave the card at home. Find something interesting and positive to do instead of hanging out bored at the mall, and challenge your friends to do the same.

  • How much gas to drive from Toronto Ontario to Louisville Kentucky?

My friends and I are planning on going to Louisville for a conference in the spring…we’re from ontario canada and we were wondering how much gas on average we would need (in either litres or gallons) and how much we should prepare to spend for that?
    Thanks!
    Oh.. And we’re driving a small-medium four-door compact car

    • Horatio 8:00 pm on January 23, 2012

Since you did not provide your gas mileage and your gas tank capacity, I will have to guess. It varies considerably among compact, small and medium cars.

Since the exchange rate between US dollars and Canadian dollars is almost at parity, I will consider them to be equal.

The most direct route is through Detroit Michigan, Toledo Ohio, Dayton Ohio, and Cincinnati Ohio and measures about 1,000km. I expect you will fill up your gas in Toronto and Toledo Ohio. I am also assuming that you will travel 500km with Canadian gas and then fill up with US gas in Toledo Ohio.

Assuming a gas mileage of 10km per litre, a 1000km trip would need 100 litres of gas.
So 50 litres would be purchased at $1.20 Canadian dollars / litre = $60 Canadian dollars.
and 50 litres would be purchased at $3.30 US dollars / gallon = $44 US dollars

Therefore, the gas expense for a one way trip between Toronto and Louisville would cost approximately $60 + $44 = $104 Canadian or US.

Please understand my calculated total could be off because:
      - I had to guess what your vehicle’s gas mileage is.
      - I used today’s Canadian gas price and that could change significantly by the spring.
      - I used today’s US gas price and that could change significantly by the spring.
      - I used today’s Canadian$/US$ exchange rate, and that changes daily.

And because of these assumptions, my calculations could significantly change.
With a calculated amount of $104, expect to pay anywhere between $75 and $130.
To play it safe, assume the larger amount.

  • How to deal with contract employment headhunters?

The last time i took a contract position, i found out that like most positions there is a salary range. And depending on the job description i could make a better decision about my desired salary. But these days i get calls for potential jobs and before i even here a job description they ask me whats my desired rate. How am i supposed to go about this? Im used to direct hire jobs and have not had good experience with these contract houses.

    • Talita K. 6:38 pm on January 23, 2012

Tell them that you cannot give them a desired rate until you know what the position requires. Then after they give you the description, always give them a range of pay, such as $15.00 to $19.00 per hour. This gives you wiggle room so they can’t nail you to a certain rate.
If you ever get asked by a potential permanent employer what salary you are looking for, respond by asking them what range are they paying. Always avoid ’showing your cards first’.

  • How to stop myself from spending money?

I’m 14 years old, and I want to save up for a new phone because I’ve lost the old one, I get pocket money but somehow I always spend it :(
Any tips on how to save up money fast without craving to spend it?

    • windgate 6:38 pm on January 21, 2012

Think to your self, do I want that candy bar or that new phone. Also when I started out, I would say to myself. That purchase cost x amount of dollars. That is two hours of work. Or ad up the hours that purchase would cost me. Is the purchase really worth that many hours of work.

    • DR + Mrs Bears face 6:38 pm on January 21, 2012

When you go out only take the amount of money you know you will need. That way you won’t be tempted to buy that extra magazine or whatever. In an emergency a friend would lend you the cash if you lost your fare home.

  • How much would it cost to have an animal doctor trim a rabbits nails? How much for neutering?

I really need to get my rabbit’s nails trimmed down, but I will need to have an animal doctor do it since I’m afraid I’ll end up hurting my bunny. And he needs to be neutered.

How much would it generally cost to have this done?

    • BrighterThanTheMoon☾ 5:00 pm on January 20, 2012

females are usually more expensive so youre in luck.. but still neutering is no cheap buisness it usually ranges from 80 (very unlikely) to around 200$

    • Frank 5:00 pm on January 20, 2012

      call the vet and ask.

    • JAB 1990's Wife 5:00 pm on January 20, 2012

I can only answer half your question-I think here around central texas the cost to get a male rabbit neutered is about $85. Price varies, but if you want an accurate quote then call your rabbit’s vet. The vet told me they don’t like to put a rabbit under anesthesia because it’s risky if the rabbit will come out of it or not. I think that’s why the price is so high.

    • Joseph 5:00 pm on January 20, 2012

      can you elaborate

    • Sharon 5:00 pm on January 20, 2012

Trimming toe nails with bunnies does take some practice and a confident hand. Most vets will do a quick trim up though mine charges I think about $7. Many will do a quick trim if the bunny is brought in for an exam or other things. Neutering will run anywhere between $80 and $200 depending on the vet and location. Really important with the bunnies though that you use a vet with some good bunny experience as they really are so much different than cats and dogs.
First it is normal that cats and dogs are fasted prior to surgery. No food or water the night before and morning of surgery. Rabbits though do not vomit so the danger of vomiting and aspirating during surgery is nil but, an empty belly can be a huge problem so a rabbit savvy vet knows never to fast a rabbit. Also they are sensitive to some anesthesia so only isoflourane or sevoflourane should be used.
Pain meds are very important post-op especially the first day(the boys typically do fine after the first day though. I think that all pets should have pain meds post-op) Really important too that the bunny is eating soon as he shakes off the anesthesia. The surgery on the boys is pretty quick and straight forward and they are only under a few minutes with a good vet.

  • How to live off 10 dollars a week?

I’m a university student, everything except for food is covered. Usually I spend about 50 dollars on groceries per week. I need to save some money and since food is pretty much my only expense I need to make cuts on it for a couple of weeks.

Of course, I don’t want to starve myself to death, but I need to do this.
Consider it a challenge – you have 10 dollars for food for a week, how do you survive?
    I’m in Canada btw.
    :)

    • looks like a human 6:39 pm on January 5, 2012

$10 is tough, but I’ve done it. Mc.D’s dollar menu will leave you starving, unless you can swing $20 a week.

      $10 tho? jeezus. ok.

Buy $4 of dry pasta, $3 for a potatoes, and $3 for hot dogs. Cook up all the pasta with hot dogs, and divide into 14 portions. Potatoes are for dinner on Tuesday & Thursday. M,W,F,S you must scavenge dinner.

Go to pizza places, ask for free parmesan cheese and red pepper packets to use on the pasta.

Go with wealthier friends, to restaurants with "free bread", and don’t eat anything but the free bread and water.

Take Mayonnaise, Mustard, Ketchup, relish, & Spicy packets from fast food places. Use on the potatoes, and any scavenged food.

Car dealerships sometimes give out hot dogs.

Some churches give out food, but in exchange for your eternal soul.

If you live near the beach, clam-digging and/or fishing may be an option.

Some trees in public places are actually fruit or olive trees.

Dumpster dive for bottles and cans. Recycling can easily get you $20/week.

    • bubba m 6:39 pm on January 5, 2012

Yea ramen noodles are your best bet. Eat maybe 2 ya 3 of em a day. I still don’t think though that ramen noodles will give you proper nutrition.

    • Mystique 6:39 pm on January 5, 2012

Spend the whole $50 and buy some protein, fruit and vegetables as well. If you live off noodles or mainly carbs you will gain weight, lose muscle mass, your brain won’t function as well, you will be tired all the time and basically always feel like crap.

    • Chris 6:39 pm on January 5, 2012

Top ramen? They are about a quarter each. Get about $2 worth. Your set for a couple days. Also if buy a 16 pack of hotdogs and a loaf of bread. It’ll cost about $6-$7 but your pretty much set for the week. There’s also frozen foods you can buy that are about $1 each. This is the way I eat alot of times.

    • BH 6:39 pm on January 5, 2012

I think you would probably starve on $10 a week, but I would eat lots of noodles which are really cheap to fill you up (Asian supermarkets usually have cheap ones) and lots of vegetables like english spinach or choy sum and stir fry them with a little oyster sauce. For protein eat eggs – scrambled, fried, omelettes with multigrain bread. Don’t buy drinks except milk, just drink water. And of course no desserts or sweets or junk food. You want maximum nutrition for minimal cost.

    • ReyRain 6:39 pm on January 5, 2012

Oh wow. It can be done. I would just use coupons like there’s no tomorrow! Coupons are good *smile*. Also you can buy beans and hotdogs for pretty cheap I believe. Also read groccery store papers to see what they are going to have on saile – like to see what vegetables, what fruits, etc. And I would try to create a meal out of some of the stuff you buy instead of just buying a sandwich here, a burger there, you know what I mean?

      I wish ya luck!

      Remember…Coupons :3

    • penguin 6:39 pm on January 5, 2012

Big bag of rice from Chinatown, discount veggies from a Chinese grocery, bulk beans, condiments like oil, salt, and pepper for flavour. Search for recipes online to make all of this palatable. Don’t know if you can do it for 10$ per week, but it”ll be cheap. There are also food banks to go to. Good luck.

    • Katherine W 6:39 pm on January 5, 2012

Try a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter. It’s nutritious and filling. You can also call the local food bank and see if you can get a bag of groceries, which they say is three days’ worth but it’s usually a week or more. You can also see if there are any volunteer programs where you can volunteer for a couple of hours in exchange for groceries. There are also soup kitchens that will feed you, no questions asked. Try calling the Salvation Army and asking.

Also, if you’re pretty, you can go on dates with guys and let them take you out for a nice dinner. If you go to a Chinese restaurant, you can take home some food, too. Just don’t get into cars with strange men, arrange to meet them at the restaurant if you don’t know them well.

  • How much of the current Republican Party comprised of the Democrat's Droppings?

The Southern "Dixiecrats" dropped out of the party and turned Republican in the 60’s when LBJ passed the Civil Rights act. The Christian "Moral Majority" Democrats dropped put after the "Prayer’ decision. So in other words the Republicans have the castouts and misfits from the Democrats that now call themselves Republicans. How much a percentage is debated but the fact that the Republican party is made up of Democratic refuse is not.

How much of these Democratic droppings are now showing in the Republican Party’s positions and hatred of Obama?

  • How to get into a music supervision career?

I’m 15, and I’m looking into going into music supervision. The only problem is that there’s really no specific program for it. I know it helps if you know someone in the movie business and whatnot (which I don’t), and it helps to have a legal background, but other than that, I’m really not sure where to start….
Does anyone else have any info on how to to get into it? Maybe a person in that field that I could interview, or any businesses that work in this field around Michigan?

    • Chomp Samba 6:38 pm on January 4, 2012

Ideally, you should begin as an intern or assistant to an established music supervisor working in TV, film or advertising. Unfortunately for you, most of these people are located in NY or LA. But perhaps you should research if any film production companies or original TV shows are based near where you live.

You may also want to get in touch with local advertising companies or companies that have in-house brand management. There should be plenty of automobile industry outfits near you in Michigan. But ultimately, you’re going to want to work with people whose job it is to select and/or license music, and the nerve centers of that industry are in NY and LA.

On the other hand, you could try to get into it from the music industry side of licensing and intern or work for a music publisher or record label. These companies often work side by side with music supervisors and could be a foot in the door for you. Just be careful about the legitimacy of these companies. Make sure they have a history of licensing music to TV and film projects first.

I also recommend that you read interviews with established music supervisors (see @licensor on Twitter) to see learn how they got into the industry and their path to success.

Hope this helps! Best of luck.

  • What's your plan on how to get rich or obtain wealth?

I have a plan on how to get rich. It involves me investing in many different types of assetts, attending college, working hard and managing my money right. This will take about 40 years to complete. How do you plan on becoming rich?

    • David M 6:39 pm on January 2, 2012

That’s pretty much the plan that I followed. I don’t necessarily consider myself rich, but I’m sure a lot of other people do. Follow that plan and you’ll do well. Good luck.

I plan to take over the world.

I won’t be rich, but I’ll graduate dental hygiene school in May of this year. I’ll be happy starting off my young life making $25 an hour. I’ll be making even more than that if I move out of this area, but heck I’m happy with $25 an hour as my starting salary.

For me, I want the ability to care for myself as a woman. My ex boyfriend broke up with me, so I need something that can’t run out on me at random: A college degree and job as a dental hygienist.

Without insurance, it seems like most clinics charge around $3,000-$7,000.
