What job can I get as a 16 year old in the hotel and hospitality careers?
I am interested in attending The Hotel School at Cornell. I know the first step is to show a strong interest in the field- what better way than with a job?
My only problem is that I doubt hotels would hire a 16 year old to work for them. What other jobs can I get over the summer to add to my resume, which would look just as impressive to admissions officers? -
What do you think the answer to the answer to the Economic “Crisis” is?
I had a discussion with my father about our current Economy, and I asked him, how do you think it will solved, fixed, brought back to normal? Now its no secret why our Economy is back (Although John McCain said we need to find out how this happened….) the Housing Market, buisnesses going bankrupt, people losing there jobs, 4$ gas, etc etc….. Oh yeah my dad reminded me about how much money we are spending on Iraq, and that probably isn’t helping that situation. Now, I have heard a whole lot of talk about why our Economy is going down, but not that much talk about how we are going to fix it. Some people say we should just hang tight and let the problem go on until it doesn’t get any worse and then just rebuild from there, but I fear that it will become so bad, that we won’t be able to rebuild all that was lost… Obviously, Housing is a big issue, sub-prime loans were a bad idea from the start, the banks should have known that people would not be able pay if an event like this happened, taking such a gamble has obviously taught the bank to be more careful about who they give loans to, and how they give them, so at least people won’t be buying houses with sub-prime loans any time soon. So yeah, back to how we will fix the problem, my father was telling me about an article he read that said, we may be able to invent our way out of a depression (Yeah, I know they say we aren’t going into a depression, you get the idea tough) and I though that was a pretty intresting idea. I mean if you take things like the I-Phone and other items in which lots of people buy, that obviously helps the Economy our some. However, I think we would need to invent many inventions, and lots of people would need to buy them, just to start the road to recovery (because, it would take lots of I-phones to become equivalent to the price of a house..) although, it is an intresting idea and it would defintely help if the big buisnesses (Apple, Microsoft, etc… etc…) would make something that lots of people were to buy to help get the economy rolling… (I-phone 3G). Then you also have the problem of buisnesses going bankrupt… Besides other buisnesses buying them out (Bank of America ftw) I don’t know how you can fix that, maybe we do just need to let them go belly up and then rebuild… 4$ gasoline, also is a problem, although Hybrid cars, cars that get 30+ mpg, and pure electric, ethanol, or solar cars, I think are the future, we just need to build them…. It would help if we didn’t have a war going on during this, and I wish we could use the whatever billions of dollars that we are using on the war to help our the economy, but I don’t have any control over that…..
Phew… well that was a mouthful, but know I want to know what you think the answer is, or if you think there is multiple answers. Or maybe a few of you pescimists think we won’t solve it, and that the market will crash and blah blah blah…

Do you believe higher gas prices could be the best thing to happen to the USA?
Now everyone wants a fuel efficient vehicle, they have conversion kits coming out in the next couple months to convert vehicles to plug in hybrids that will get 100mpg. You see GM closing down SUV factories to set them up to make their electric car the VOLT. Seems to me that the higher the gas prices, the sooner we wont be using gasoline or diesel for our vehicles and we wont be dependent on foreign oil.
It also seems that in my mind the OPEC nations would want to make oil cheap again so that the rest of the world doesnt convert everything to hybrids and electric vehicles. Then they wouldnt make the big bucks that they are used to making.
What do you think?

Science Fair Help (Environmental Science)?
Hey guys, i submitted my topic for the science fair (High School level), but my teacher rejected it. My topic was:
"The Effect of Various Pollutants on the Melting Time of Ice"
The idea was that i’d get a transparent container, and put an icecube in it, then time how long it takes to melt. Then i was going to put a new icecube in, and fill it with one specific automobile’s exhaust (SUV, truck, hybrid, motocycle, etc) and see which had the least and greatest effect on melting time.
My teacher rejected it because she said the heat of the exhaust would cause the ice to melt faster, not the trapped light (like global warming/green house effect.) Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve this experiment, or make it easier, etc.
I was thinking of taking a "double boiler" approach where i’d have one transparent container inside of a transparent container. The inside container would have the icecube, and the outside would have the car exhaust. This way, the heat of the exhaust couldn’t interfere with the ice, and would be a more realistic model of the Earth.
Comments, suggestions, concerns?
Thanks in advance,
Brendan

If you leave a sales job right after the quarter, and they owe you commission, will they still pay you?
I may get another job offer that would want me to start in October. I’m making a killing this quarter at my sales job and am above quota. My current job doesnt’ usually pay commission out for 6 weeks after the quarter ends. If i left before I got paid, would they still have to pay me my comission? I’m in the state of California, if that makes a difference.

should illegal immigrants be on the police force?
SANTA FE (AP) — The Santa Fe Police Department is considering the possibility of recruiting Mexican nationals to fill vacant police jobs.
Sgts. Gillian Alessio and Marvin Paulk, who are in charge of the department’s recruiting and training, said Tuesday they are considering alternative approaches to fill 20 vacancies on the city’s 155-person police force.
But Police Chief Eric Johnson said New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy regulations prohibit non-citizens from serving as police officers.
“Every day, we get approached by young men and women from Mexico who are in the country legally but are not naturalized,” Alessio said.
“There is a huge pool of people who are dedicated, hardworking and trying to become citizens of this country. They would like nothing better than to devote their time to protecting the communities that they live in,” she said.

Isn’t this outrageous? Now the police force wants cheap labor and fakes a shortage.
